New ErP Regulation Now in Effect: What HVAC Professionals Need to Know

Industry Insights

Effective 1st July 2025, the European Commission has enacted a new regulation EU 2024/1103, replacing the former ErP Directive (2015/1188) for local space heaters, including radiant tube and luminous plaque heaters. This update raises the bar for energy efficiency and environmental performance across the HVAC industry.

Key Regulatory Updates

The revised eco-design requirements focus on improving system performance and reducing emissions:

  • Seasonal Space Heating Energy Efficiency (SSHEE): Luminous plaque heaters: now required to meet 90% efficiency (up from 85%) Radiant tube heaters: must now reach 80% efficiency (up from 74%)
  • Emissions of Nitrogen Oxides (NOx): New cap at 180 mg/kWh, reduced from 200 mg/kWh

These changes are significant and will impact product specification across all industrial, commercial, and hospitality heating projects in the EU.

SRP® Ahead of the Standard

At Superior Radiant Products (SRP®), all our radiant tube and luminous heaters are fully compliant with the latest ErP requirements. We have proactively updated our performance data and product documentation to align with EU 2024/1103. Each product manual includes published SSHEE values and NOₓ emission levels, making compliance verification straightforward.

A Note to HVAC Professionals

We strongly encourage engineers, specifiers, and HVAC consultants to verify the efficiency and emissions data of any heater being considered for projects within the EU. Products that do not meet the new thresholds may not be legally sold after July 1, 2025.

Per the regulation, efficiency values must be clearly displayed in both the product manual and on the manufacturer’s website. This transparency is critical to ensure full compliance with EU 2024/1103.

If you’re unsure whether your current or upcoming project aligns with the updated regulation, we’re here to assist. Our team can help interpret the requirements and ensure your heating solution is both compliant and performance optimized.
